How To Resolve Cannapi.dll Error

The connapi.dll file is part of the Nokia PC Suite software. This DLL file is a Connectivity API (Application Programming Interface).

Connapi.dll Issues

You may encounter the following connapi.dll error when you boot Windows or try to open Adobe Photoshop Elements 6:

"apdproxy.exe: Unable to locate component. This application failed to start because ConnAPI.dll was not found."

What causes the connapi.dll error?

When you boot your computer, Adobe Photo Downloader looks for certain type of devices on your computer, including Nokia mobile phones. On computers that have the Nokia PC Suite software installed, Adobe Photo Downloader looks for the connapi.dll file, which is a part of the Nokia PC Suite software.?

At times, for some unknown reason, Adobe Photo Downloader checks for the connapi.dll file even when Nokia software isn?t installed which in turn causes the error to appear.

This error appears when you load Windows because by default, Adobe Photo Downloader will launch when Windows starts.

Possible Solutions

To resolve the above issue, you can use either of the methods discussed below:

Method 1: Uninstall and Reinstall Nokia software

Note: This method is applicable to users who connect their Nokia Mobile Phone to their computer.

Different software on your computer, such as Adobe Photoshop downloader, can communicate with your Nokia Mobile Phone only when Nokia PC Suite software is installed.

If you have installed Nokia software but are still getting the above connapil.dll error when you load Windows or start Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, then uninstall the Nokia PC Suite software and reinstall it to fix this error.

In case reinstalling Nokia PC Suite software does not fix the above error, upgrade the software to a newer version.

Method 2: Remove the NOKIAManager.mox (Adobe Media Object Exchange) file

Note: Only use this step if you connect a Nokia mobile phone to your computer.

If in the future you intend to connect a Nokia mobile phone to your computer, it is recommended that do not delete the NOKIAManager.mox file. Adobe Photo Downloader requires the NOKIAManager.mox file to download photos from Nokia mobile phones. You should save this file on your hard disk and move it to its default location before connecting a Nokia Mobile phone.

To remove NOKIAManager.mox from your computer, perform the following steps:

  1. Click Start and then click My Computer to open its corresponding Window.
  2. Next, navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\moxplugins.
  3. Right-click NOKIAManager.mox and click Delete.
  4. Reboot your computer.

Method 3: Stop Adobe Photo Downloader

You can workaround the above issue by stopping Adobe Photo Downloader from automatically loading when you boot your computer.

If you choose this method, please remember that you will have to start Adobe Photo Downloader manually when you want it to download photos from external devices, such as card readers or cameras.

Follow the steps below to disable Adobe Photo Downloader:

  1. Launch Photoshop Elements.
  2. Open ?Organizer?, click the Edit Menu, and then click Preferences.
  3. Click Camera or Camera Reader in the left pane.
  4. Clear the checkbox before Automatically Launch Adobe Photo Downloader.
