How To Manually Uninstall Office 2007

At times you may not be able to uninstall Office 2007 using the Add or Remove Program utility available in Windows. In such cases, you may have to remove the software manually.

In this article, we will discuss how to manually uninstall Microsoft Office 2007 on a Windows XP computer if you cannot uninstall Office 2007 using the Add or Remove Programs utility.

Manual uninstallation of Microsoft Office 2007

Note: You need to be logged in as an administrator to complete the steps listed below.

Task 1 ? Remove Windows Installer packages of Office 2007

  1. Click Start and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type installer and then click the OK button.
  3. Click the View menu of the Installer window and then click Choose Details.
  4. Select Subject under Details selection, type 340 in the Width of selected columns (in pixels) box, and then click OK.
  5. Again, click the View menu, point to Arrange icons by and then click Subject.
  6. Right-click each .msi file that has the subject as Microsoft Office Product Name 2007 and then click Delete to remove all Office 2007 .msi files.

Task 2 ? Stop Office services and remove Office 2007 remaining installation folders

  1. Click Start and then click Run.
  2. Type services.msc and then press Enter to open the Services window.
  3. In the right-pane, locate and right-click Office Source Engine and click Stop.
  4. Click the File menu and then click Exit to close the Services window.
  5. Click Start and then click Run.
  6. Type %CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared and press Enter.
  7. Locate and right-click Office12 and Source Engine folders (one by one); click Delete to remove these two folders.
  8. Click Start, click Run, type %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office and press Enter.
  9. On the root folder of each hard disk drive locate the MSOCache folder and delete all folders that have Office in the folder name.

Task 3 ? Remove files related to Office 2007

  1. Run %appdata%\microsoft\templates and delete the Normal.dotm and Normalmail.dotm files.
  2. Next, run %appdata%\microsoft\document building blocks\Language_ID and delete the Building blocks.dotx file.
  3. Run %temp%, press Ctrl+A, and then press the Delete button to clear the temporary files.
  4. Next, run %AllUsersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data.
  5. Locate and right-click the Opa12.dat file and click Delete.

Note: Do not delete the Opa12.bak file.

Task 4 ? Delete Office 2007 registry Keys

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type regedit and press Enter.
  3. In the Registry Editor window, locate and delete the following registry keys

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV ersion\Installer\UpgradeCodes\*F01FECHKEY_LOCAL_MACHIN E\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\ UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\*F01FEC 
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\o se
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Features\*F01FEC

  4. Locate and expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV ersion\Uninstall registry key.
  5. Delete all the keys under this registry key that have:

    ValueName –  Uninstallstring 
    Value?- *\Office Setup Controller\setup.exe*

  6. Click the File menu of the Registry Editor and click Exit.
  7. Restart your Windows XP computer.

Office 2007 is now completely removed from your Windows PC.
