If you receive the “d3dx9_27.dll missing or not found” error when you try to install a Microsoft-based game, you need to manually copy the d3dx9_27.dll file from the Disc 1 CD of the original game CD Pack (in this case it will be Disc 1 of the Microsoft Age of Empires III game CD pack) to the folder where you have installed the game.

Here are the steps to follow –

  1. Insert the CD 1 of the Microsoft Age of Empires III game into your CD or DVD ROM.
  2. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  3. Browse to your CD or DVD drive.
  4. Locate and double-click the DirectX9 folder.
  5. Double-click the Apr2005_d3dx9_27_x86.cab file.
